2007 saw the opening by Dermot Kelly Ltd of an exciting new showroom and administration block. This is the latest development in the dealership in more than 50 years of history.
In 1954 Dermot Kelly in Kilcock was personally appointed a Main Ford Dealer by Henry Ford II during his visit to Cork. This represented a brave new venture for the Kelly family which had established a wide reputation in the bakery business since the 1860s. Taking up a Ford franchise was inspired by their great experience with Ford vehicles in the bread van fleet. Their first motor van was a Model T in the 1920s.
When the dealership started it not only had the Ford franchise for cars and trucks but also reflected the rural base at the time with Ford tractors and agricultural equipment. Throughout the massive changes in the agricultural machinery industry Dermot Kelly Ltd is one of the few dealerships to have maintained their position and now operate the New Holland franchise which incorporates the original Ford tractor business.
In 1955 we opened Ireland’s most up to date car dealership with a stunning new building. The 2007 building is also an outstanding landmark structure giving a 21st century entrance to the town from the Maynooth road. The new showroom is not the first building added to Kellys’ premises in recent years. In 2000 a state-of-the-art accident repair centre opened which has won approval from Ford and the main insurance companies to be part of their national network. This has enhanced the range of service Dermot Kelly Ltd has always offered motorists. With overnight delivery of parts the motorist need not suffer excessive disruption when the unexpected happens.
Dermot Kelly Ltd has always had a strong family influence and James Kelly, son of the late Dermot, is Managing Director. The third generation is now represented on the staff by his daughter Louise. The family atmosphere is enhanced by the fact that Pearse Fahy has joined his brother Alan and his father Peter on the sales force. Peter has been on the staff since the 1960s. |
